A New Downtown School

Active parent involvement is the lifeblood of any independent school, doubly so a new Waldorf school. Families who are committed to living in downtown Manhattan and want this kind of education for their children will step forward to found the school. A large number of experienced organizers and educators from New York's Waldorf community will mentor and support the new families who will join to create this new community school. Parent EducationVolunteers are needed to run a series of talks by experienced teachers about child development and Waldorf education. Reserving space, setting up chairs, shopping for wine and cheese, writing name tags--this is what it takes to help host an event. A commitment to Waldorf education is not required, rather an interest to explore the possibility and invite some friends. Dads' CommitteeThe fathers at the Rudolf Steiner School found that they had a special interest to organize outings with their children, to the zoo, the Hudson river, or other local trips. If you would like to help organize such a group, please contact Matthew Fenton at 917-673-0865 or mmfenton [at] aol.com. (The Dads are often called upon to pick up after parent education events, as well!) Leadership VolunteersSomeone to lead the search for a facility is needed. Relevant professional experience or connections would be helpful but initiative, commitment, and organization are the most important prerequisites. Energy, initiative, professional and organizational skills, and financial commitment from several other trustee-level leaders will eventually be needed.
