Why Waldorf

Waldorf schools follow a curriculum first developed by the Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner in the early 1900s. Today there are more than 1,000 Waldorf schools across the world. Asking a Waldorf teacher about the pedagogy is the best way to learn about it. Most descriptions will include several themes:

  • an astute awareness of developmental stages and teaching children in an age-appropriate manner
  • preserving childhood as long as possible
  • the importance of a daily rhythm, creative play, relationship to nature, and a beautiful environment for children
  • the special commitment it takes as a Waldorf Class Teacher--a teacher who will ideally progress with the children from Grades 1-8.

Parents should study Waldorf education through readings, by attending parent education events, and speaking personally with Waldorf teachers. (give us your email and we'll reach out to you--enter it to the left)
